No, you're not going to catch a "cold" from your cat.
But chances are what your cat has is not a "cold" at all.
It's more than likely and Upper Respitory Infection and that requires a Vet visit...don't let it go, it's not going to go away on it's own the kitty needs antibiotics from your Vet, you don't want it to turn to phenomia.
Also most cats are exposed to the Feline Herpes virus as kittens, the majority of them become immune to it.
But there are some will carry the virus with them all of their lives.
Some may never get sick and some may take years to have a "FlareUp" or "Out Break".
Two of our four cats have the virus.
One has had two outbreaks and the other has only had one...they are 6 years old.
They can live long, happy and even healthy lives with the virus but when they have an outbreak it needs to be treated by a Vet.
They display "cold" like symptoms.
Sneezing, runny nose and runny eyes...they may also deveolp very red or pink whites the their eyes...very similar to "pink eye" in a human.
They will also make a coughing noise like they are trying to get up a hairball.
No matter if it's a URI or it turns out to be the Feline Herpes Virus you CAN NOT catch either of these things, but the cat needs to be seen by a Vet.
Good luck, I hope kitty feels better soon.

First, No--it's not likely that you or your family members can get anything (except perhaps worms or rabies) from a cat. However, get your cat to the vet ASAP. This sounds like your cat has an upper respiratory infection. If not treated immediately, the kitty will probably develop pneumonia and die. To the vet--NOW!

Cats do not get colds, so no it isn't affecting your family. However, "cold-like" symptoms in a cat could be an indication of something more serious. You need to have your cat checked by a vet.

Cats can get upper respiratory infections or what we call the common cold or flu. However you can not pass a human cold on to your cat and vice versa. The cat 'cold' is a completely different cup of tea. If your cat has any of the below symptoms for more than a day or two he/she probably has an upper respiratory infection.

No, you can't catch colds from each other. You don't need to do anything for the cat; it will pass.
