Hong Kong is one of the world's great cities, it's a modern metropolis set in a fantastic harbor surrounded by islands, mountains and the Chinese mainland. The people are mostly very friendly and English is widely spoken (former Brithish Colony). I've been there over 75 times, and always look forward to returning time and time again. It's a big city, if you like big cities, HK is one of the best, if you don't like big cities, you probably won't like HK. March is a great month to go, the weather will be perfect. Go to www.hkta.org, the official website of the Hong Kong Tourist Association, they'll have all the info you need.
Have a good trip!

HK is a great destination for shopping and eating. So many foreign people are there. If you are a tourist, then you can visit Disneyland and Ocean Park. Each time I go to HK, I always stay at the Hong Kong side. (There are also Kowloon and New Territories). In the mornings, I go to Victoria Park to join the mass exercises there. People also go to the night market in Mongkok for all the discounted merchandise. a new attraction there now is the Light Display every night at Victoria Peak. No matter how many times I have been there, I still look forward to my next trip. It is an exciting place.

I lived there for several months a few years ago. Think of Hong Kong as a Chinese version of New York City -- crowded, bustling, with something to offer everyone (as long as you figure out where to look). There are many islands beyond Hong Kong island which you should explore. A few of the highlights -- the Star Ferry, Stanley market, Lan Kwai Fong, and some of the outlying islands. It's a great city!

To be honest, Hong Kong is not nearly as interesting as Mainland these days. Once you've done the star ferry, the peak tram and the shopping, you've done enough--- one day. But you can get an easy visa to go into the Mainland from Hong Kong.
Note: I lived in Hong Kong for one year, and Mainland for five.

I have been to Hong Kong MANY times. Here are the good and bad things about Hing Kong.
Good
Shopping, sightseeing, FOOD!, architecture, Ocean Park, Disneyland, the bird atrium, and did I mention FOOD. Sorry, but the food is great.
Bad
Rude people. (But you get that in most metropolises. Unfortunately, many Hong Kongers are experts at it.)
INSANE CRAZY RUDE drivers (I can't say enough about the drivers there.)
Impatient business people. (I was eating at the mall, and after 15 minutes, they came and told me that I was taking too long to eat.)
The English people. (I'm sorry. I know that most English people (and i mean from England) are not rude, but in Hong Kong, I was treated like I was less than human by some of them. I asked one for help finding the Canadian trade office, and he said, "Oh, you must be one of those Canadians" He made it sound like Canadians are second class British citizens. And that was just one of many rude Brits that I met.)
Air. (Bring your own. Ughhh! I couldn't breath because of the pollution!)

I went to HK way before it was returned to China. English was supposed to be an official language there, but most people couldn't understand it at all. They spoke only Cantonese, not even Mandarin Chinese. There was also a very colonial atmosphere, if you know what I mean. Ironically, on my recent visit, I noticed English is now understood a lot more. And people seemed more settled, like they're no longer in limbo.
