Serotonin is one of the body's natural chemicals produced in the brain which directly affects mood and indirectly affects many other aspects of living.

Doctors may recommend serotonin replacement as an option of combatting depression, and more recently it has been implicated in remedies for improving sexual performance in males.

Whether or not a person should take it depends entirely on the circumstances of that individual. Depression is caused by different things in different people, sometimes it may be psychological, in which case no amount of antidepressants will help in the long run, as working out problems and seeking happiness is the only answer. Depression can also be caused by a serotonin deficiency, where the body cannot produce serotonin in enough quantities to elevate levels to the minimun level needed by the body. In this case depression can result and serotonin replacement is a very effective and worthy treatment. The treatment course should run for only 6 months, as once the level in the body raises to a sufficient level, the body will continue producing it.

By taking serotonin in any form you are not affecting the production of it by the body, therefore your body will continue producing it indefinately. Many amphetamines such as ecstacy, heroin, etc act on the body by inducing a huge release of serotonin by the body. Once these levels drop the body goes through some horrific changes mood-wise. Over time the body essentially burns out its ability to produce serotonin, and in later life the body will simply stop producing it, causing terrible mental trauma.

Generally before one makes a desicion about what drugs to take (perscribed or not perscribed) one should look carefully at the person you are and your individual limitations. Make an informed decision and you will find the best solution.

Taking serotonin or increasing it can be dangerous; one can have a serotonin poisoning if there flows too much serotonin through the body.

Serotonin is a substance which is being activated when one is experiencing pleasure such as mania (a disorder where one experience rapid thoughts, euforia, etc.), having sex, or just being happy. When one suffers from OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) serotonin also plays a role.

I don't believe you have low serotonin, as you would experience depression or a similar mood disorder.

I still don't get why people ask medical advice on the net; if you are doubting, go see a doctor. One must always be sceptical when accepting answers from the internet.

serotonin levels can drop slightly as you age, but not a major amount.
by taking drugs like ICE, this can seriously damage your serotonin levels, as your body begins to rely on the drug for its happy feelings, your body forgets how to make it, and the only you can then feel even normal, is to take more of the drug. is the nastiest, dirtiest drug to hit ozzie streets in a long time. so yes, you loose a bit naturally, but nothing to worry about really. good sex should help bring it back up.

If you over use heavy drugs illegal such as ice or heroine or legal such as anti depressants It can seriously decrese your levels when you get older which is something that would not be a good thing, because instead of the high u get off drugs or numbness from antidepressants you will feel empty
