Sounds like you're married to my mom. Good luck. There is no cure because they won't admit theres anything wrong. For them to admit that means they don't have control.

is she a teacher? Sometimes these are personality traits. Have you tried writing a letter-sometimes the 'word' is more easy to digest than talking. People can change, especially something like that. I think I tended to be that way till I had kids and experienced a big earthquake, then I realized really nothing was in MY control! Don't want to wish an earthquake on ya, but that's what itt took for me. Just the knowledge that I had no control of even the ground I walked on.

Sounds like you married my ex. She's still the same miserable control freak she was 30 years ago. I long ago came to feel sorry for her new husband, but better him than me. Her two (now adult) kids can only put up with her with extreme patience.
So, to handle? By agreeing with just about everything they say or do or want to do, or, leave.

there has to be some underlying reason why she acts this way or maybe she is really that selfish.
Have you asked her why she is so controlling? What you could do to lessen her insecurities? Maybe that would help. There is always marriage conseling and therapy.
