It's a false belief that people think that anti-depressants make you simply happy. This is not how they work. They work by re-establishing chemical imbalances in the brain which can raise your mental cognition back up which means you can make an effort as to trying to figure out why you are depressed and psychotherapy is the way to go from there. I've never heard of anyone being totally cured from depression from anti-depressants alone and no other form other therapy. These pills aren't magic and they don't do everything for you. Generally when it's said that an anti-depressant isn't working for you it's because your condition hasn't improved in the slightest which has nothing to do with feeling happy; the meds are suppose to help you get to a comfortable level to talk about your problems with a psychotherapist/psychiatrist or other mental health professional. As for your motivation with riding and the rest that could be because of the anti-depressant. Some anti-depressants actually induce mania which is funny. Hope this has been some help. Wish you had mentioned which anti-depressant you are on.

The obvious answer is - you will feel better! However, it is much more complicated than that.
Anti depressant medication works better for some people than for others. And you're right, the side effects can be awful. I am always struck by the fact than some drugs can affect the ability to enjoy sex - because loving sex is one of the best ways to feel better! Of course, you can still make love when you're taking these drugs, but it can impair the ability to have an orgasm.
But one of the best ways to feel better is to have hugs with friends and family, and you can do this whenever you want to.
There are three main treatmenst for depression - and only one of these is medication. Studies have shown that exercise works as well or better than medication ! And you have found this yourself.
The third treatment is counselling or psychotherapy - perhaps you could try this too? My guess is, if you keep going to the gym and maybe get some therapy, you will not need medication.
Wishing you good luck x

I do not know what this drug is that you are talking about, but I do hope it came from a doctor qualified to dispense such things.
It is good that you are getting out of the house and still able to work., but still, you should ask your doctor if it is safe.
You will find that any anti-depressant drug will take at least a couple of weeks to "get into your system" and start to make a difference.
Hope you find a way out of this depression.

I personally get some extreme after-effects from Anti-depressants so I never touch them. You are doing what I usually do, and get exercise when I am depressed. Drugs usually leave you needing more and more and so you never learn to feel ok in your normal state. Your best bet is to get help and talk through your problems, as this will alleviate your depression on a more permanent basis. Another point to remember is that Depression and anger are strongly linked
