well, since you didn't specify the price range or your favorite type of cuisine, i'm gonna take a stab and say trattoria primadonna for italian at 1506 spruce. the food is delicious, very reasonable and consistent. another slightly pricier option would be los catrines/tequila's at 1602 locust st. which serves the best mexican food in philadelphia and they have great atmosphere.

The Adobe Restaurant serves some awesome Southwestern food in a fun atmosphere. It is near Manayunk and Glen Willow, west of the city.

Love the Charthouse in Philadelphia, but if you want to get outside of the city, Maggiano's in King of Prussia is the best! Happy eating and happy birthday!!

Philly is a great restaurant city. You really ought to add details. Price range, age group, type of food, loud or quiet, etc... Except for the pingpong lady with her Italian and Mexican suggestions, everyone else is suggesting terrible national chains to you. What a disgrace! Continental (there's two of them) is a sophisticated but not too expensive Philly favorite for everyone. Asian and continental (!) food menu, very fresh and original, and beautiful people.

Delilahs has excellent Fish Tacos.I recommend the Tuna Surprise or the roast beef curtain. They also have a good sancwich called "The Ham Wallet". All kinds of crazy stuff packed in there! Don't wear your best shirt as you will end up with sauce going down your chin.I don't live there anymore but I think it's near Delaware Ave. There's also a resturant down there in a sailing ship-something like" Moshulu". It was good back then.

The Melting Pot is really kinda fun and different. If you're looking for something different, that's a great place to go. My brother took me there for my birthday, and I'd love to go back. Happy Birthday!
