Jeep cherokee spare tyre removal how do you get it off???

At first I thought I was stupid, but I have now taken it to two tyre places and read the manual. We just cant get at the spare tyre. It has one of those spare tyre covers with the reg number plate on it. Does anyone know how to get this cover off?? Thanks (its a 2003 cherokee liberty)

is the cover held on by the nuts? if not feel around the underside and inner edge of the cover for a release mechanism. i've been to the Jeep website where you can download the owners manual but that just says 'remove the cover if fitted'! try looking in the yellow pages and contact the service department of your nearest dealer. as a last resort contact whoever you bought the vehicle from and ask them.
