True Christians reject the trinity. Although Catholics and Protestants accept the trinity, their own reference books admit that it is not a Bible teaching. For instance:

The Encyclopedia of Religion admits: "Theologians today are in agreement that the Hebrew Bible does not contain a doctrine of the Trinity." And the New Catholic Encyclopedia also says: "The doctrine of the Holy Trinity is not taught in the O[ld] T[estament]."

Similarly, in his book The Triune God, Jesuit Edmund Fortman admits: "The Old Testament . . . tells us nothing explicitly or by necessary implication of a Triune God who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit. . . . There is no evidence that any sacred writer even suspected the existence of a [Trinity] within the Godhead. . . . Even to see in [the "Old Testament"] suggestions or foreshadowings or 'veiled signs' of the trinity of persons, is to go beyond the words and intent of the sacred writers."

The New Encyclopædia Britannica observes: "Neither the word Trinity nor the explicit doctrine appears in the New Testament."

Bernhard Lohse says in A Short History of Christian Doctrine: "As far as the New Testament is concerned, one does not find in it an actual doctrine of the Trinity."

The New International Dictionary of New Testament Theology similarly states: "The N[ew] T[estament] does not contain the developed doctrine of the Trinity. 'The Bible lacks the express declaration that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are of equal essence' [said Protestant theologian Karl Barth]."

At John 17:3, Jesus called his Father the ONLY true God. How then could Jesus AND his Father both be the only true God?

Hi there, Dreamer. In your profile you claim to have a high spiritual plain. That must explain why you call others stupid.

To answer your question, no, I'm not so stupid that I don't know my own scriptures. I am however not a fundamentalist that thinks that everything I believe concerning Christ and God must explicitely be spelled out in the Bible. If that were the case, the Bible would become like a banal instruction manual to be blindly followed. Mystery would be done away with and freedom of choice to believe or not believe would boil down to arguments over doctrine and quoting of scripture. Instead, the Bible points to the mystery of the encounter with God in the person Jesus.

Rather, the new testament was written in a community that understood the message of Jesus and reflected that message in its writings. Certain beliefs were hashed out and made explicit in time, but evidence of other beliefs being there even from the beginning are reflected in certain scripture passages. Besides, it is reasonable to believe that there was no reason to explain the Trinity if everyone understood it. Only later when people didn't understand it and called it into question did it need to be defined and defended.

By the way, it is clear you don't know the Bible either.
For some indications in the Bible of the Trinity see: Mark 1:9-11 (considered a theophany, Jesus is the Son, and the voice is of the Father), Matthew 28:19 (not in the "names" of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, but "in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit"), the whole discourse in John about the Advocate in chs 14, 15, & 16, intermixed in these discourses and in ch 17 are bits about Jesus and the Father being one.

I don't think I've ever met a Christian who denied that God is three in One- the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost/ Spirit. It is an integral part of the Christian religion, and the hardest part to completely grasp. Any Christian who does not know about this, obviously has no clue about their religion at all

I've never seen any scripture that says God is 3 to 1. I've seen plently of scripture saying that there is only 1 God though. There aren't 3 Gods. If you are trying to explain the Trinity but don't posses the education to clearly write your question, I would say
people can not be called Christian if they don't accept that the Trinity is true. Anyone who does not accept the Trinity is not Christian, including the Mormons.

I have spoken with this young girl, and she substains the same youthful defiance that almost destroyed me. The one being duped, is the one who believes that they are created from a compound mixture, the ones who deny that all things created have purpose. The merticulous dull lifestyle of a philosopher is they never truly learn anything. Looking thru crevices and peering erroneously into a twisted culture believing mankind can be catergorized into "ISZMS" That is ridiculizm. Whether we know the scriptures entirely or not, we with fatith and the same diligence that a philosopher uses to uncover the useless, we shall be given the valuable gifts of wisdom and understanding. "Lean not to your own understanding" "walk not in the paths of sinners" As this age, it would be very beneficial, to reduce from being a defiant brazen young woman, and craft yourself in such a manner that you will be exceptional as a bride one day. But at this pace, you will with corrupted knowledge be assuaged to become a lesbian or something other then what you were intended. Not imply that you are, but standing on a incorrect logical premise, will serve to misguide you. SATAN IS REAL, it is those who believe he isnt, are the ones who are duped. Satan's greatest trick is to convince the people that he deosnt exist, and by the power of thier fleshy minds, they can attain immortailty. Remember Adam and Eve?

So basically, you're not a Christian but you're mad because many Christians don't accept that God is 3 to 1. 1st of all I think your post is really stupid and a waste of time. Why would a non-Christian care what a Christian thinks about the bible? 2nd of all it is not called the mystery of 3. 3rd of all, before you call somebody stupid learn to spell 'ridiculous'.

I guess that's true, but still if that's what they want then leave them be, I don't get why people are against other people's religions and customs, can't we all just live with our religion without nagging and saying bad things about others customs etc. It would make everything a lot easier in the world, and there would be less fights etc. You don't have to go along with everything I just said, but if you could at least think about I think you would realize that there is some truth in those words.

I may not be the most intelligent person around, but I know what I believe in...and I can spell SHAMPOO and RIDICULOUS. I suggest you spend more time on your spelling and less time attempting to make jokes about something you'll never understand ADDITION...What the hell are you talking about? Looked at your home page and you say that God is important, blah, blah, to you. So what are you doing posting such a stupid question, slagging His followers off? Dreamer, you need to wake up and get in the real world. I don't think you know what you are, who you believe in, or what time of day it is

I would not be a walking Bible but I should be...I find not enough time or acceptance of the Bible in public to be all in the world and all in the word...My fault...I well Know children do not get all in the teachings of the word to be a walk on sight receptor to the verses...It is not a requirement to love God but a requirement to be familiar with his words and able to love him not to break his commandments...I feel God is free and open to all who call on him even those who do not believe. Man has added so many rules to God and taken out some of the text that was intended the Bible repeats itself in some scriputure and it lines up with history so even that you will believe it is the truth...I recently see by TV some of the facts I did not read or learn at church...How Pilot who washed his hands of Jesus Killed himself...Shocker and how pillars with Pilots name has been found and a whole city under water and under sand has been found...Did Sodom and Gomora exist....They are unearthing things about the world as we speak type...I did say God was all in one God the father the son and the holy sprirt and did not separate the three as it was confusing... and confusing to the way I was taught and I had to accept and separate by a dream my mother had and now I embrace new religions that separate as well as they accept God as being one...It is how you look at it and embrace new things about God come in every day...Please change your mind for God so I may see you walking on the Golden Streets in Heaven some time in the great future and get into History Channel and things if you cant read and note the speakers and teachers if you cant read...The church was founded on how can I get you to believe in Heaven without some beauty of a house made on Earth dedicated to God...Stain Glass and Art and Jewlery and high seilings..marble and fixtures of Gold to get you to believe in the beauty and richness of Heaven...People have died building churches and statues of liberty...People have gone to war over you having a choice for
God....Girl get with the program...Three is a little thing to wonder and worry about when we as Christians look at the big picture of the end of the world as we know it and getting out of the way for the end to occur...The rapture....looking to go up without a spaceship or rocket plane...Nina loves you and God does too love us all

NOT A CHRISTIAN- Obviously.

This is a pervasive myth perpetuated by (typically) muslims to paint christians as polytheists, which they most certainly are not. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are the same; they are one being; It's just like your heart, lungs, and brain are all part of YOU. The "Holy Trinity" is also not accepted in ALL branches of christianity. Your gross overgeneralization is as disgusting as alot of the anti-muslim drivel I listen to on a daily basis. Do not presume to know everything about a religion because you hear your imam comment on one aspect of said religion, and do not presume to make accusations intended to make members of a religion feel like second-class citizens just because you harbor some silly resentment for whatever reason. Mystery of three indeed.
