All that i can say is, please, please do not spit on me when i return to america because i was in iraq. If you are a fellow american who disagrees with the war, that is fine, but my job is to serve my country in peace and in war, and i do that job with honor. If i were to be spit on, like vietnam vets were, i would kick the ever living dog s!!! out of whoever did it, plain and simple. Disagree with Bush all you want, but dont, for a minute, believe that what we experienced and sacrificed for our country makes us villans, stupid or mindless killing machines. We are the best that this country has to offer, and i hate to say it, but we do deserve that respect. Thank you.

Do you like looking at traumatic experiences. Nope. People ignore what they don't want to confront.
Now..knowing that...think about this. Trauma is different and a matter of environment. What is traumatic to one is not necessarily traumatic to another. People spit on and trample those who get in their way. 9/11 was years ago. Years with an "S" on the end. You can't stay angry for ever and that is what drives a war. The anger of the people behind the sword. Every blade looses its edge sometime. People want to be happy and want to think of their world as serene. The constant reminder of a war in which service members are losing their lives interferes with that. Bush was right for the wrong reasons. Saddam needed deposed. I'm American and grew up on stories of King Arthur, Robin Hood, and knights and heros and always wanted to feel like one. Most of America feels the same way. The problem is that the war lasted longer than our anger. Now. How do we leave the party without insulting our guest.
We don't spit on them. We aren't disgusted with the soldiers. I and every one I know shakes their hands every time when meet them. Don't let the news agencies destroy your image of America. We love our country and the men and women fighting for it.

I am afraid that it has always been the case. And probably always will be.
In war men and (now women god help us) in the Armed Forces are exposed to the extremes of human behaviour they see and are asked to do things that are outside the normal human experience.
To kill and be killed. This is normally seen as a criminal act by people in ordinary walks of life. The only other possible group who can relate to this is law enforcement.
The toll on people who serve is heavy. For service people the praise and honours bestowed upon them by the governments who sent them, go some way to reducing the psycological damage. I have witnessed the mental damage in individuals dating back to WWII as well as other recent conflicts.
The public are even less sympathetic when the conflict is perceived as unpopular or unjust by a large percentage of the population.

People close their eyes to what goes on around them. A sad testimony to today's people. Many years ago in America a whole street watched a woman get raped and murdered and no one called the police because they thought some one else would do it. How true this is of peoples perception of the military.
They think you are paid for it you do it. But hey that is if they think about it in the first place.
Perhaps videos and photos of what a tiny proportion of the military have done give the rest a bad name.
Here in England our military are well thought of and stepped in tradition and history. History shows us that the US soldier is often forgotten, Vietnam, Tepan, Iraq. People are uneducated with a view of if they Don't see it they don't have to think about it.

The servicemembers today are treated a lot better than those who fought in the Vietnam War. Those who were in the military during that time were spat on.
You can't judge an entire nation based on a couple of Iraq veterans getting spit on. I have never seen more "Support the Troops" stickers in my life.

You are a rambling moron who has been watching Faux News too long. http://www.newshounds.us/
Who is spitting on soldiers? This is a myth perpetuated by the conservatives to force people to support our troops. Give us one example of someone who was arrested for spitting on a soldier or a legitimate news report.
As for grasping what they do...I suppose you do, as you would grasp the suffering that the Iraqis are enduring at the hands of us soldiers.
BTW, you don't get anywhere by following, you get places by leading so if you aspire to follow, get in line lemming.

Who's spitting on the troops? I don't think you have a lot of facts to back up your question. I abhorr this war but realize the troops are just as much victims of it as everyone else. They're not losing this war, the Bush Administration is.

I don't know who you are talking about! Who doesn't understand and who spits on the military servicemen. Sounds to me like you are listening to some pretty uninformed people. Accusations about people need to be backed up by more than vague generalities!

I'm confused.
I never spit on anyone in the military of any country. They do a hard job, often are underpaid, and usually only do it because of the love that they actually have for their country.
Their sacrifice is appreciated. They are not condemned, but their leaders often are, for lying and getting into wars without real reasons.
