Since we are not doctors here, but my wife is a nurse (RN there is many things that could cuse the spasms and pain. The most common cause is similar to a cramp, cause by too much excercise, a massage should take care of that. If you hurt a muscle in the neck that could be solve with therapy and massage. Your best bet is to see a doctor, so he can tell you exactly what you have before you take anything. A sports medicine doctor would be best or a orthopedic surgeon. Good luck and take care.

Yeah, it's either stress, overworking or your own condition.
What you can do is if you work out a lot is to take amino acids and glutamine which will help you recover more and thereby not have as much in the way of pain. I do a lot of those supplements and they have helped me tremendously.
Remove stress in your life, that's harder to do than say, but it is important. Go find an outlet that will relax you.
Find a massage place or an acupuncture place, something that will help to relax those muscles.
And finally, see the doctor if those tips don't work.

I used to get the same thing in high school, before wrestling matches. Turns out, I was having dreams of the upcoming match, and was spending much of the night straining and bunching up my muscles.
I would wake up in the morning with muscle knots and nerve pinches in my neck. They would last for days, and I could barely move my head in either direction.
My advise is to take some ibuprofen for the pain, and if there is any stress in your life, to look for ways to reduce it.
Good luck to you.
