Yes- the new format DVD's, (HD or Blu Ray) use a special 405 nanometer wide laser (one nanometer is 1 millionth of a millimeter) so pretty freakin' small.

It's wavelength is not the typical red of 1990's era DVD players (which is broader in the spectrum of light) but blue-violet, which enables the thinner laser, as well as more data on the same area/size disk. Hope this helps.

Yup, if you have an Xbox 360 you can buy an add on drive that's the cheapest way to go, or if you get a PS3 you can play Blu Ray discs right outta the box.

lmao! sorry...yes yes you do. otherwise....why would they sell them? to be technical, they use a new blue laser rather than the traditional red one, this reads the data or something, the new dvds have a thinner layers allowing more space...something like that!
