I have a 1997 olsmobile Aurora my wife was driving the car when a fire started under the hood of the car.
They found the problem to be the fuel injector spraying gas on the engine.
would the fuel line going bad cause this problem with the injector?

No it is not normal, fuel injectors should spray fuel into the firing chamber of your car not on top of the engine.

would the fuel line going bad cause this problem with the injector?

Only if the fuel line had a defect in it where it mated up with the injector, or if the defect caused additional stress upon the injector causing the injector to fail.

Could be the fuel line or a faulty injector and could even be a faulty o ring seal on the injector.

See which line is leaking and pull it off and put plumbers tape on the threads in a counter clockwise pattern then put it back on.
