We just managed to break our laptop...along with the hardisk...
We now have new PC, but my daughter cant do her homework
because new PC doesnt have word/works. On the old PC it came pre-installed when we bought it..

As the first two answers indicate go with openoffice. Obviously you can't beat the price and it is a great program. It will allow your daughter to create/edit/open/save MS Word documents. She will be able to to use openoffice just like Word, plus you get programs that will do the same for Excel, Power Point etc.

goto download.com and get a copy of open office2, its absolutely free, and itll open all office type word docs and spreadsheets (and databases) it runs on a windows or linux platform... and to be honest, its actually better than gates version..

oh, its also generates/creates PDF files... something the microsoft product doesnt do.. oh yes, and you can install one copy on as many machines as you want..because there are no serial numbers...



oh, and its free... did i mention that.

Try using Wordpad - it should have that - most Word files open in wordpad.
