To prove soemthing would be to demonstrate beyond beyond doubt that something is a certain way. Isn't faith a hope of things unseen and therefore not something that can be proved in a rigorous scientific fashion and hence forcing others to accept it? What happened to giving a reasonable account of one's faith and leaving it at that?

And why is it that atheists think that they can prove that God doesn't exist? Isn't it more illogical to claim to know for certain that something doesn't exist, which would require simultaneous knowledge of every corner and dimension of the universe, than to believe it is possible that something exists that might not? Why are atheists so threatened by those who believe in God?

Discuss what you think the best dialogue between science and religion should be... and please keep your answers serious and respectful.

To Paul S: The phrase "in light of a lack of evidence for God, God doesn't exist" is unscientific because it jumps not from evidence but from lack of evidence to a conclusion. A simply statement such as "There is no direct evidence indicating the existence of God." That would be a proper scientific formulation because it still leaves open the possibility of said evidence coming to light. This is what I mean when I say atheists are trying to unscientificly prove that God des not exist... they jump to non-scientific conclusions and then try to say they have science behind them.

To Johnny Zondo: You just proved my point. Science does not rule out the existence of God. To do that, it would have to prove the non-existence of God. Real scientists, not the pseudo-scientists that most atheists are, acknowledge that the question of God is beyond the scope of science to fully answer. Just like real theology acknowledges that scientific issues are beyond the scope of theology to fully answer. Each can shed light on the topic of the other, but can not fully answer each other's questions.

It is truly sad that so many are falling away from the faith of our Lord, it is also written that they shall in the Latter Days, Prophecy has foretold what people on Yahoo and elsewhere are doing off and online. [Matt: 24] "At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people."
Some deliberately denounce God, others deny Him, many shall be turned over to reprobate minds. His coming is soon, He stands at the door and knocks, but sadly enough many deny Him enter. Millions say, "He is not coming, for He has not thus far and everyone has professed He will for centuries". However, isn't that exactly what the prophecies says will happen? Scoffers, saying, "Where is the promise of his coming?" as Peter informs us in his 2 Epistle, iii. 3, 4, "Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? For, since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation."

READ HERE for more SIGNS of Christ's Second Coming. You might actually find your own actions and beliefs, as those of whom the Word speaks about, the scoffers, those who deny Him. READ CAREFULLY dear brothers & sisters. This is a dangerous thing to laugh at and mock our Lord and the promise of His coming. The Left Behind serial novels were fictional books and movie based on these Biblical truths. The movies & books are only an example of what it COULD be like to be Left Behind. However I do not believe we can even precieve the wrath of God that will be poured out upon sinful mankind. I pray for you that you will come to the knowledge of God before it is too late for you. I love everyone here, and only want to share what I know to help you.

Yes, belief in God for some is Faith, for others it is undoubtedly from the viewpoint of Science (and Solid State Physics). Sitting & typing in bashing remarks about another religion, faith, or belief in something or nothing, is not worth my time anymore. I have found that the best way to approach an Atheist or non-believer is not as a badgering person. Instead the correct approach would be to use that which they supposedly rely on for their proof, as the basis of your proof as well. Therefore I am adding the following for all to read and judge for themselves. In the end your bodies will fail you, people will fail you, but God never fails you. And ... if you want proof, He will lead you to it. However He can only do so if you have an open mind and a heart ready to receive truth. EVEN IF IT COUNTERS ALL YOU HAVE EVER BEFORE AND NOW BELIEVE!

I am a follower of Christ Jesus, and though I live by the Bible, I also LOVE science. Science is studying the existence of God, Creation, and the human soul. Atheists and others would have you believe that this is not the case. However please read the following, and judge for yourself. This dear man is open minded and is a great scientist, like my grandfather was. I also have other friends from whom I am in contact with that are also studying such matters. There are a LOT of scientists that have gone, what some would call "rogue", however these are brilliant men and women whom have studied hard to earn their degrees.

The following Written by: Marco Biagini Ph. D.

I am a physicist and I would like to invite you in the site of the “Center of Scientific Divulgation about Consciousness”:
http://xoomer.virgilio.it/fedeescienza/englishnf.html
where I analyze the incongruities of the materialistic conception of the mind, on the basis of our present scientific knowledge about brain and matter.

This analysis points out how the laws of physics prove that the brain cannot generate consciousness, which existence implies the presence in man of a unbiological/immaterial element. The problem of consciousness is then strictly connected to the one of the existence of the soul and, consequently, the existence of God.

In the first article entitled “Mind and brain...” you can find a general discussion of the mind and brain problem from a scientific point of view.

In the second article entitled “Scientific contradictions in materialism” you can find an explanation of the fundamental inconsistencies of the typical arguments used by materialists, such as the concept of emergent, macroscopic or holist property, complexity, information, etc.

In the section called “FAQ: answers to visitors' questions” you can find the answer to many typical questions, such as "Are there any scientifically proved miracles?", "Does the existence of the universe imply the existence of God?", "Can science explain God?", "Can science establish which is the true religion?", "Can science explain consciousness in the future?", and many others.

"And why is it that atheists think that they can prove that God doesn't exist?"

Who told you that?

I don't see atheists telling people that they can prove that god doesn't exist. I guess there are a couple of them - the folks who think that the idea of god implies a contradiction - but I'll bet that the majority of atheists don't think that they can prove that god doesn't exist. I don't think that I can. It just doesn't seem important - in light of the lack of evidence for a god, god doesn't exist.

The rest of that paragraph seems simply irrelevant. If there is someone who claims to know for certain that god doesn't exist, maybe some of that has some meaning, but for atheists in general, it's just not relevant to the point.

As for why atheists are threatened by those who believe in god, you'll have to ask the believers that one.

atheism isnt right or wrong, its simply a position.

i have no need to prove "god" does not exist. science pretty much rules out his existence anyways so i dont even need to lift a finger.

were not threatened per se. when people like you (or if you arent) christians decided that your fantasies are going to be taught in public schools....then i have a problem.

when you put statues that condone a specific religion in a federal building thats not supposed to be condoning a specific religion (1st ammendment) then i have a problem.

when you force your beleifs on women, saying what they can and cannot do with their bodies...then i have a problem.

when you stick your nose into other peoles person allfairs as if you have a say in them....then i have a problem

as you can see its not your beleifs that i have a problem with. its your actions.

ATHEISTS HAVE NO FAITH TO PROVE

SO, IN ALL OF THE EMPTINESS, THERE IS ONLY THE FUTILE EFFORT TO DISPROVE THE FAITH OF OTHERS,

WHAT ELSE IS THERE FOR THE ATHEIST?.
