And what's the difference between how each of them calculate the weight?

I know they use mechanical ones at the doctor's/hospital, but is there a real reason proving they're more accurate?

The scales the doctor's use are very expensive and calibrated better than scales sold to you for home use. Both are good, but I would think the digital scale is more accurate and more durable. Less moving parts inside.

Digital is generally assumed to be more accurate but it really does come down to the quality of the scale regardless of analog or digital. Read the description on the digital scale. Does it give measurements in units that are smaller than you could possibly care about? That should be definitive enough for you. Either way, both analog and digital should be calibrated before use each time you take it out. (Meanig: Does the scale say zero with nothing on it.)
