You definitely want to carry it on. Too many bags can get lost or damaged. The people handling bags have to move quickly and moving quickly means that candle handle things with the care that they may need. Therefore if you put the laptop under the plane, you may discover it no longer works when you get it back, it may take several days to get it back or you may not get it back.
The best/easiest thing is to check it. Put it a good quality bag that it fits snuggly in. Be prepared to take it out for security, keep an eye on it so no one snatches it at the other side. Other than that you just need to put it in the overhead. If you carry it on you don't need to do anything special for the screen.
I take my laptop with me every time I travel, I carry it on and have never had a problem.

First: carry it in a good quality bag that will give it plenty of protection from accidental damage. You might also be able to fit in some basic things like face wipes and perhaps a spare shirt.
Second: Do as the flight attendants tell you about when you can have it turned on/off etc
Third: If you have a flash card do not use it on the aircraft
Fourth: When not in use stow it under the seat in front of you.
When you go through security you might be asked to take it out of the bag and x-ray it separately. You may also be asked to turn it on to prove that it is really a working laptop.

I fly with my laptop most weeks and it is definitely safer to carry it on board - I wouldnt check it in as there is far too much chance for it to get lost.
They do however, tend to get bashed about a bit as you have to get it out to go through security, and then it can 'move' from movement in the flight in the overhead locker.
Couple of tips -
1) Make sure it is easily accessible for you to get it out to go through screening in the airport
2) Make sure you have it in a bag that is padded to absorb some 'knocks' on board - you can get rucksacks with a part specifically for a laptop. These are good beacuse they are well padded but in addition allow you to put anything else you need in it. If you are flying from some british airports you are allowed only 1 cabin bag so its easier than a traditional laptop bag

you may both save it contained in the overhead compartment or less than the seat in the front of you. not in any respect save a pc in checked luggage. try to be superb leaving it in case you flow to the lavatory. like the first poster reported, there's a prevalent rule of airplane etiquette that asserts you do not contact different people's stuff, and it really is unlike they could flow very far with it interior an airplane. If someone does thieve it, contact the flight attendant. also, i ought to apply a gentle case because it ought to compress to fit in smaller areas at the same time as a difficult case can not.

Get a good laptop bag and take it in the cabin.
You can get ones with additional space for other items you might want to have with you.
Never check in a laptop, if they say your bag's too big to take on board, checkin the bag but take the laptop out and carry it.
If you check it it will get damaged.
Several collegues have checked theirs when their cabin bagage wasn't allowed onboard, all got broken!

definetley do carry on. then it's also something to do on the flight. it's easy for them to loose luggage or damage it so I'm assuming you'd trust carrying it yourself more than anything. be sure you have a good laptop bag!

Since most airlines won't allow you to ship it as a checked bag, you will have to carry it with you or leave it home. Just be sure it is charged and operable in case TSA asks for you to prove it works.

Pardon the pun, but i think its safer on your lap than in the cargo hold, have you seen the way they throw that baggage about, its a lot of money to be taking a chance on, especially if its an expensive one, good luck on your journeys.
