I am about to adopt a child whose name has been miss spelt on the birth certificate. Is it possible to change the spelling of the name?

I don't think it is Pat sorry. You may be stuck with the wrong spelling on the certificate, but you can put a notice in the newspaper to declare that your child's name is ######.

It shouldn't present a problem. Who asks to see birth certificates? Not many people. You could ask your Registrar of Births, Marriages and Deaths.

In the UK, your birth certificate is never changed - this is a permanent record of your birth. If you wish to adopt another name, it is your right to do so at any time - you dno't need a Deed Poll. You just inform everyone you have dealings with that you have changed your name. Don't let banks, etc bully you into doing a Deed Poll - it is not necessary. But your birth certificate will never change.
