ways of showing respect vary in different countries, but there are a few basic things you should do everywhere - talk politely, listen carefully. Give and take things with your right hand [even if your a leftie]. Shaking hands or bowing is also a good way to show respect. When someone is talking to you, bend slightly towards them.

Others have noted good ideas. I like to think that respect also comes from the inside. Not only what we say, and how we say it, but what and how we do things.
In addition to the acts of respect and good manners already offered, all I can contribute is that rude people apparently think rudely, disrespectful people think in disrespectful ways.
So, if we think respect, even though our manners may not be perfect, there is a good chance that our very attitudes and expressions on our faces will count for much.
I may be a fine one to say much because I remain

Just be nice, but not obnoxious. A lot of people try really really hard to get on their good side, but that just creeps them out. If you want to show them respect, talk to them politely and ask questions. Most elderly like to talk about things. Even if the topic doesn't interest you...they will love you for being interested in talking to them. Complement them.

Don't walk between two people having a conversation, unless you stoop down out of their view if impossible to pass otherwise, don't interrupt when two are speaking, don't smoke in line, don't exhale smoke as your walking into a non-smoking place and throw your cigarette but on the ground for others to pick up. Listen attentively.

HOW TO BE
RESPECTFUL

Treat other people the way you want to be treated.

Be courteous and polite.

Listen to what other people have to say.

Don't insult people, or make fun of them, or call them names.

Don't bully or pick on others.. .

Don't judge people before you get to know them.

It's basically treating others the same way you'd like to be treated---with some dignity and compassion.
