ok a few easy points....

1. its not hard if you plan it out
2. find the middle of the walls and windows and work out to even the tiles on both sides
3. if the first rows are level and vertical it makes it easier to keep the following rows in line so mark it out
4.hire or buy a bench tile cutter.....rotating blade type.....about 40 quid for a hobby version...
5.paint the wall with a watered dowm upva (white glue) solution to seal it.....
6.give it a go have fun

This may not be an easy project for a beginner. If you haven't set tile before you might want to practice on a piece of plywood. The biggest rule is to keep the tile and workspace clean. Never let the thinset mortar dry or setup before you sponge it off. If you are tiling a tub surround with a rectangular shape always start with the longest wall first. If the walls are not plum or square you'll have to either tear out the existing substrate or find a way to make the walls plum and square before setting any tile. (Hardibacker or wonderboard are common surfaces used for tiling wonderboard only on walls)
When laying out the tile have pattern and tile size decided. On wall always snap a level line in the very center of the wall. The center line will tell you weather to have a full center tile or the grout line of two tiles as the center.
Always go with the layout the leaves you with the fullest tile at the edges of the wall. The idea is to minimize cutting.

Hi

I used this site not so long ago, and made a very good job by doing it myself and saved a fortune.

Even the plumber down the road was impressed.
