There's a program called autopatcher which rolls all the windows updates into a zip pack and you can install locally.
It has a decent interface which runs similar to the microsoft site and you can select which updates to install. They release an update patch for the program once a month to include anything new.
There's also a genuine advantage hack that's been out for a while if you prefer to go straight to the windows update site....It's really more of a pain though because it's updated frequently.
I've been using autopatcher for a few years without any trouble and when I switched to vista the analyizer recognized my system and offered the correct update patches. Just make sure to get the full version of the program and also pick up the latest month's update.

You don't even have to have a valid serial key to install Vista, and you can push back the activation time, so no reason to pay for it, just download an upgrade from the web.
I wouldn't use it though, I requires too much on the hardware side of things to run, and takes a 5gb hdd footprint, and nvidia drivers don't work right either!
I won't install Vista ever on my home PC. I'll go from Windows 2000 to a flavor of Linux, or to MacOS. When MS will charge $200 for a full version of something, then perhaps I will buy it.
When I can get a new XBOX360, which is hardware, for cheaper than I can get the only Vista version that I would be willing to run (Ultimate), then screw them. Also, they should say SCREW YOU GOVERNMENT. We are releasing only two versions of Vista. Server and Workstation, as they did with NT. None of this here are 20 versions, choose what works best for you BS.

If you choose to purchase an upgrade version of Windows Vista to upgrade XP in your case a cracked version?, you will no longer be able to use that version of XP.
Either on another system, or as a dual-boot option. The key will be invalidated, preventing activation.
Stay with your Genuine Windows XP!!!

Definitely not!! Microsoft's database of "cracked serials" is extensive and you could be "nicked" .There will be someone to refute this ...but Uncle Bill is getting mighty upset by his lost revenues through hacking.Even if you don't validate...there are lots of "registry hooks" that may I/D you when you are on-line..It's not worth it...believe me !!
