10 - 15 % slower on games due to the resources taken by the aero interface... this was admitted by the Microsoft Team.
Seems faster on some apps & internet.
Still, I went back to XP Media Center ... Vista is way too busy for my tastes, & I really don't see any "big" advantage other than a pretty face & a new search engine .... big deal...
The true advantages are for Microsoft having more control over the content on a Vista PC than on previous operating systems.

Excellent Windows the best yet. But it has this thing called User Access Control Which asks you twice to any program or file that is opens or runs. It is a easy process to stop it so email me your email and write UAC for Vista and I'll email you back with how to stop it.

I think it runs programs faster than xp. you have to turn services off to get a performance boost, but it's good. i also found a slimmed down version of vista called vista xtreem which i'm using now. runs great

It's about 15% slower on everything for me. I won't ever move to XP, let alone Vista. Upgrades should be just that, and UPGRADE, not a downgrade that looks nicer.
