"Sealand" is the smallest country in the world - a former sea-based anti-aircraft platform off the coast of England, and a declared "principality" (Hello Sealand!). Sealand is not recognized as a country by the U.K., but it has a mailing address in the U.K. Does the United States recognize Sealand as a country, and if so, could I become the U.S. ambassador to Sealand? Do any countries recognize Sealand as a country? Are there any ambassadors to Sealand from any country? Thanks to all who answer - I'm very curious about this.

I do know that the UK does not recognize Sealand as an independent country, but I remember hearing something about some court somewhere saying that it is - I'd like to hear about that too - Thanks!!!

I do like fish, but not raw, don't know about the beach ball balancing bit. And to "Ol' Blue Eyes" - thanks! Also the one from the child of the Consulate General - I had no clue about an 8 year wait, so I guess I will be "s.o.l." no matter what, although this is VERY interesting!

No because Sealand isn't recognized by any International country as a country of it's own it's park of the UK.

Sorry!

Now that it's for sale, the U.K. will probably dispute it's "independence". It now lies inside British waters, unlike when it was founded back in '67.

No country in the world recognizes that country, and if no country recognizes you, you really don't have a country to speak of. It'll also most likely bought by some private, rich person; the pirating website that is interested in buying it won't get it, according to the son of the owner.

So, no, you can't be the ambassador to Sealand, since it's probably not even a country.

[ADDED] As far as the court case went, while I don't remember the exact circumstances around it, it was something to the effect that the ruling didn't exactly make it a country. Only the owner thought it did.

My father used to be a consul general in the US and I've looked at his book naming all the embassies in the world. But I couldn't find Sealand. I don't think you can choose a posting place. You have to work at the Dep. of Foreign Affairs first and wait for at least 8 years until you can be ambassador, then maybe the US government could post you to Sealand or another country.

Good Luck!

I saw this on 60 Minutes or something a couple weeks ago. Big changes in Sealand apparently, they're going to be governed by the UK Parliment in the near future, they're going to democracy. I'd never heard of it before that aired.

Thanks for excellent idea. I didn't knew about SEALAND, before I knew only a transport company named MaerskySealand. It seems very amazing to be an ambassador there, Nothing to do, only fish and port's whores....Attractive....Very much attractive.

Thank you. Sometimes it helps so much to read jocks here on Y! Answers.

Can you balance a beachball on your nose?

Do you consider raw fish a tasty treat?

Those are prerequisites for consideration.

Woops, that's for ambassador to SeaWORLD, sorry.

But the requirements are still pretty much the same.
