Use a Sony Digital 8 Handycam and a modern computer. The Digital 8 handycam can play your Hi8 cassette and convert it to video for input to a computer. If your computer doesn't have Firewire or USB, it is too slow to do anything worthwhile with video.

Sorry but that cam is exactly the same as I have and to connect to the PC you need a firewire and an S cable depending on what programmes you are using (you will need both anyhow). Hope this has helped you.

What people are not telling you is that Hi8 is an analogue format and therefore you cannot transfer video direct from the camera to the computer. You need, as someone else has said, a device like a Pinnacle Dazzle into which you plug the output from your camera. The dazzle will convert that to a digital format which the computer can read.

you're going to be buying a pc attachment regardless. If oyu don't have USB, i'm assuming you ahve somethign old. You can get something for as cheap as $300 and it should be more updated then your current pc.

If not a new pc, i'd go for a pci card that gives you a usb port.
I'd say its more versatile. Usb is for pc's....Firewire more for macs. I have both on my pc...well the 13xx...i forget hte exact numbers..but yeah..the pc alternative.
