CV boots can be purchased with a split and a couple of clamps for an easy inexpensive repair as opposed to pulling the CV axle off to install it . Simply take it to a mechanic and ask hom what is his diagnosis for repair and if it just starting to leak grease then the CV joint won't need replacing, just the boot At least the seeler was honest enough to let the buyer know what's up. cause when a mechanic does iol changes he inspects the joints and if he sees the tell tale signs if grease spotting in the inner fender well and told the owner then I would say the car is well maintained and this will be an inexpensive repair

The CV joint is part of the suspension, and looks like a large universal joint at the end of the axle, just behind each of the front wheels...this joint is covered and protected from dirt/sand by a rubber (black) accordianed cup, or boot.
Hopefully, he's talking about the boot itself...this keeps the grease inside, which waterproofs the fairly expensive joint and helps to keep it free of debris that could damage it.
the boot is cheap enough to replace, but if he's hinting at the CV joint then have a mechanic give a second opinion before dropping cash on the car.

This is a rubber cover which protects the trans-axle joint connecting the drive shaft from the transmission to the front wheel, and is located on the wheel assembly. This should be replaced immediately. It is likely that if the vehicle has been used in this condition for long, the joint-shaft and boot will need to be replaced. Good idea to have the car checked out by a mechanic before buying.

It means the right front axle has a joint on it called a cv joint, with a rubber boot around it sealing all the grease in. If that boot is torn or broken, as would seem to be indicated it's probably too late to save it, as road grime has probably gotten in there alrady and torn the bearings up., and it will need a new right front drive axle. not cheap.
This is A known weakness of front wheel drive cars, so even better, buy a rear wheel drive.

CV Boot is protects the cvjoint which tranfers power from the transmission to the wheel it is probably a 3-4 hundred dollar job to replace it

it means the car may not've been ' well maintained '. giving a cv boot attention won't fix a damaged boot.
