I mean it wasn't fried in the same oil with the fish or after but it still smells like fish.

Oil that is high in saturated fats will go "off" easily due to a chemical reaction. This can impart a fishy type taste to foods. So the oil is probably old or overused. You can use a high quality oil such as peanut oil to get a cleaner tasting fried food.

I fried chixjpken with fresh vegetable oil and I used Panko instead of flour. It made the house smell like fish. The chicken tastes like chicken.
Then tonight I fried a cube steak with Panko and the house again smells like fish! Does anyone know why?

I'd say that they used oil that was used for fish frying or even the same breading bowl for the fish & chicken.

every time that I got fish smelling chicken from a fast food I assumed that that is what they did.

Recycling the oil from frying will impart a fishy taste to anything, even if it was only used for frying vegetables.

Your oil has turned bad or your chicken is old and bad.
