I don't think there is a substitute for one. No, it's not feminine to have a thermometer....go down to the drugstore....or any store practically and buy one. Have you been sick lately? You get a fever when your body is fighting off an illness. Is the room you're in too hot? Sometimes that impairs your judgement of whether you have a fever or not. Go to a cool room, have someone feel your forehead with the back of their hand then feel their own for comparison.

The best thing to do is to cool your body temperature, versus the old method of breaking a fever with heating yourself up. It seems like you are going to die when you hop into a cool shower, but its better to lower your body temp instead of raising it. There is no substitute for a thermometer, except for maybe a mom or grandma-lol, and I certainly dont think its feminine to have a thermometer, I think its common sense...tylenol or motrin usually help too.

Got a friend or family member nearby? Ask them to place the inside of their wrist on your forehead. They should be able to tell if you're hot.

No, it is smart to have a thermometer. Temperatures above certain degrees (104 F) (which is very high and won't often go that high) can cause brain damage and at that point you should be in the hospital. So, feminine? No. Smart? Very

It's cool for guys to have handy a thermometer in their home : you won't be tagged "gay" for having one.

If you feel hot, sweaty--possibly from comming down with a cold, try taking two asprin or popular pain reliver tabs PER directions.

If that doesn't help--and your suspected fever grows worse, catch the hospital ER and get checked out.

If you can't get to the store and you feel you have a fever, stay in bed and drink plenty of fluids. Get to a doctor if you wake up tomorrow feeling the same way. The second part of your question doesn't make much sense - who gives a rip if it's feminine or not? Hmmm - maybe you DO have a fever.

first of all, everyone should have a thermometer.
as for substituting a thermometer until you can get one, the pinky (room temp) can be placed under the tongue. if it is warm, you might have a low grade fever. if hot, it's above low grade.

one surefire way of figuing it out is if your eyes feel as tho they are hot and dry.(over 102.)

You should go to the nearest clinic, let someone drive you, you could get dizzy.. Cool yourself down with very cold water, wash you face, neck, underarms, and even your head, anything to cool your body temp, down..

Take a Panadol, it can help reduce the fever..

HOWEVER, the room around you may be hot, but if you're very ill and you feel feverish you must wash with cold water.. And see a doctor as soon as you can.

I think everyone should have a thermometer at home. I suggust you go have a nurse take your temperature at school or at work or at a clinic.
