The languages of the Philippines are part of the Western Malayo-Polynesian subgroup of the large Austronesian language family. This language family has its origins in coastal China about 6000 years ago and spread to Taiwan, the Philippines, Indonesia and from there across the Pacific to Hawaii and Easter Island. One group also spread across the Indian Ocean to Madagascar. It covered more area on the earth's globe than any other language family in pre-colonial times (from Madagascar to Easter Island). There are about 1000 different languages in the Austronesian family.

be more specific. Tagalog is more from the mainland Luzon. Warai (spelling?) is from the Islands, like Samar, or Cebu.
