Your truck's mileage actually falls within the average range that the NHTSA suggests. Now, with that kind of mileage on the truck, if the maintenance has been done properly, there should be at least 2 transmission fluid changes done, and about 40 oil changes. Transmissions take the biggest beating on trucks, as everyone expects the truck to pull, haul, and carry loads that are not subjected to many passenger cars. Having said that, have the trans inspected, see if there is a maintenance history for the trans, and go ahead and set aside some funds (perhaps 3,000 or so depending on your area shops) just in case the trans does go bad and you need to rebuild it. Good luck.

Thats not alot of miles, why does everyone get scared when a vehicle gets over 100K?? My dad has a 2001 Intrepid and he just passed 300K miles and with the stock engine and trans and never had anything repaired, his secret.... he changes the oil every 3000 miles. I would get the truck, Dodge makes good trucks, my dad also has a 2003 2500 and I have an 03 Durango. I prefer Doge over ford and chevy.

We recently sold our 99 Dodge Ram 1500. It had 170,000 miles on it. It was a good truck but we bought a new one and had to get rid of it. Like any car or truck, as long as it's maintained well it should last a very long time.

I would not worry about the miles to much im a dodge man my self as long as i paid a good price for you dont say how much bot if a 2 wheel drive i would not pay more than2800 dollars for it and 4000 for a four wheel drive.I had a 99 model four wheel drive and sold it for 4250 at 185000 miles and was still very realiable truck just gave poor fuel economy at 14 mpg.

Supposively the 98 Rams run in to trans. problems at about 120k. I have had mine for a couple years and have 104k miles on it and havent had any major problems with it. My sugestion is that if you are thinking about buying it, is to have the trans. checked out first by a local shop.

I'd say you'd be replacing something HUGE (engine, tranny?) within the next two years. That's a LOT of miles. :/
