This is the whole thing that started me coming onto yahoo answers a month ago, MY TOOTH.

If it's just a plain toothache, try any of the following:
Tylenol (or tylenol 3 if you have any)
Ice Pack on your CHEEK
A very cold open cucumber on your cheek, rub it around
anbesol
As much IBUPROFIN as your body can handle
Clove oil or broken cloves mixed into anbesol
Heating pad on your cheek

If you can, I'd get to the ER if it's really bad. They can give you something stronger like Vicodin (which is the ONLY thing that helped me until the nerve came out)

If the pain is so unbearable you can't stand it, it's probably the nerve being exposed and it WILL get worse. I guess it really all depends on where your pain level is. If you can't sleep, go to the hospital. Otherwise, stay elevated because when you lay down, the blood rushes to your gums and it swells, making the pain much worse. Good luck =)

Advil is usually the best, but it sounds like it's not an inflammation problem. Try aspirin or Tylenol. I fell your pain, I inherited bad teeth. Also, clove oil can help. Or some hot tea, let it sit on the spot before you swallow. It will keep it warm and suck out any toxic goo. I've had some where I poked it with my fingernail as hard as I could, then let off and try to relax. It hurts at first but when you stop it seems to not hurt for a few minutes. I feel bad for you, I know what it's like!!! Also, call the small time dentists, some are open and have walk ins.

1. Rub an ice cube into the V-shaped area where the bones of the thumb and forefinger meet. Gently push the ice over the area for 5 to 7 minutes.

2. After each meal and at bedtime, stir 1 teaspoon of salt into an 8-ounce glass of water. Hold each mouthful, roll it around your mouth. Spit.

3. Hold a swig of whiskey over the painful tooth. Your gums will absorb some of the alcohol and that will numb the pain.

4. Drop a little oil of cloves directly onto the tooth, or dab a little on a cotton ball and pack the elixir next to the ache.

5. Take a mouthful of water (at body temperature) and rinse vigorously. Floss

After recently taking care of my husband and going to the emergency room for this, the advice was if it aches that bad NEVER apply heat to the sore area until it is established whether or not you have an abcess!! Heat usually brings the infection out of an abcess, but trust me, if you bring the infection out into your body then you are going to be REALLY sick. The doctor advised that cold compresses and anti-inflamatories are best, he recommended a "pain cocktail" which consisted of taking 2 tylenol first, then two hours later taking two motrin, then 2 hours later taking 2 asprin. He advised that normally this will take care of the pain.

Do not put aspirin etc on the sore tooth or swollen gum, this exacerbates the problem in the long term. Plain and simple use clove oil on a cotton bud, dont swallow the oil, its horrible. Swill mouth with lukewarm coffee and one hour later with salted water. Every 4 hours take a pain killer with codeine, the only painkiller dentists recommend. Dont use heat or cold as this makes it worse too.

What kind of prescription pain medicine do you have left over? Aleve over the counter is good but it takes at least 3 of them. Don't quote me on this one (a aspirin on the tooth). A Warm salty water rinse works good. Only drink and eat w/straw so you don't get any more air to the ache . Hope you feel better..

I find clove oil applied to the gum around the bad tooth helps a lot. It is not very pleasant to taste but the pain releif is worth it.

Anbesol gel is really good, you can get this at a chemist.Take
2 [8/500mg]co-codamol and ibuprofen 400mg[only 3 tablets in24hours] should help.
A hot water bottle held over the sore bit is also good.

Put aspirin on it. Ya know, there really is not much that can be done, is there? Must watch the answers. Oh I forgot that I do not need an answer to this, my dentist took my teeth and did not give them back. What to do?
