Whatever bird you want. Sounds stupid or simple, but deciding on a pet bird is a big decision. You also haven't given any criteria for it to fill. Do you want a vocal one? A quiet one? A playful clown? One that sings or whistles? One that's cuddly? There are many factors that come to play when deciding on a bird, and it depends very much on your lifestyle, your home, how often you'll be home with it, how much care you're willing to provide for it, how much research you're willing to do on it.
All birds require different care, such as dietary needs, toy and perch needs, caging needs, avian vet care - all of these running up very high bills. Some birds are very emotionally dependent and sensitive, being able to pick up on human emotions very quickly. Some are very needy and Velcro-like and some more independent.
Many people choose cockatiels and budgies as "beginner birds" because they're docile, fairly easy to tame, and have pleasant little personalities. Keep in mind all that was mentioned above, because depending on you as a person and potential owner, these birds may not suit you.

I was reading a book written by 5 experts on birds, and they all voted that the best bird to keep is a cockatiel. They are really easy to tame, talk very well [ males only] and mine even used to answer the phone when it rang by putting his claw up to his ear and saying "hello". He even used to carry his mirror all over the house with him, put it against a chair leg and do a little dance. They are too cute.

Some vegans do because a lot of times vegan and vegetarian things just have something to do with diet. Not all pet birds are kept in cages though some stay in certain other areas.

I would say a cockatiel but I'm biased seeing as I have 1. If you look in bird magazines from april onwards you will see hand reared youngsters advertised. They are the best pets as they're already ultra tame when you get them.

I find budgerigars one of the best to own, particularly if they don't have a tail (genetic defect from birth) that does not enable them to fly.I have owned a few of those, and each time, I have found them more with a personality that they would even climb out of their cage and not only do tricks, but eat and drink anything you were eating at the time, from coffee and milk to vegemite on toast. They will even spend a lot of quality time with you outside of the cage, more than any budgie who could fly will, as far as sitting on you to sleep or simply watch television.

I've had several budgies over the years. If you get it as a baby you can tame it and it'll be a part of your family. Ours is never in his cage, likes to sit on your shoulder as you go about your household chores. He especially likes the kitchen as there's so much going on - and there's always something tasty to eat. I know that he shouldn't eat half the things he does (mainly salt and vinegar crisps!) but it's hard to say no to him!
He talks as well.
They don't cost much to look after, either. Yes, I'd definitely recommend a budgerigar

Budgies or canaries are easy to keep if you're just starting out.
If you go for bigger more exotic birds/parrots they need much more attention and care

Well, budgies are good pets. I have 4, they are messy and quite noisy in the morning, but are very funny.

i always had parakeets growing up and they are fun, friendly little birds. i have a canary now and he's beautiful, but not as social. whatever you end up getting, make sure you keep it warm enough, especially a canary.
