Dieting improperly, like starving yourself of certain foods (like carbs) cuts out important nutrients founds in your diet that are very important for growing healthy and strong (and they often work while you're doing them, then you quickly gain the weight back afterwards).
Another thing to look at here is that what you weigh as a youth is not what you will always weigh, I didn't loose my baby fat until I was almost 18. It's different for everyone.
If you really want to lose weight try researching portioning.. SO much food is badly portioned, causing weight gain, a portion of meat for instance is about the size of a deck of cards.. not what most people look at as a portion! Almost anything can be good for you in moderation, but even the most healthy foods aren't good alone. Variety is key for getting everything you need to grow.
One thing that is amazing is cutting fast food, and chips and pops and sugary drinks out of your diet, and if you're up to it.. processed sugar (very hard to do lol). At the same time though.. did you know that most artificial sweeteners (found in diet and most sugar free foods) cause bloating because they're harder to digest? One of the healthier forms of sugar is cane sugar.
As for calcium supplements? They're great, they give you strong healthy bones. Calcium in the first 18 years is super important because that's when your bones are developing.. after the 18 mark it's still very important, but for different reasons, it's maintenance then. I would also suggest a multi-vitamin, ask your pharmacist for more information on both.
Hope this helped!

Eating healthier is much better for you and baby, As long as you don't go on a mad strict diet and start starving yourself you'll be doing good by your baby You'll cope with the pregnancy better and feel better if your eating healthier too :) Exercise is really good in pregnancy too. Just don't push your self really hard to do things your not used to. Try to walk a lot and just keep fairly busy. I walked loads in my pregnancy and i really think that's what kept me from gaining any extra baby weight. I was back to my pre preg weight 4 days after having Rosie then i lost loads more in the next couple of weeks, I felt great. Shame ive put weight on now though :( lol. Yoga would be great, You can get classes for pregnant women too so have a look out :) X

Severe dieting certainly would affect growth. Poor nutrition is why previous generations were shorter than the current generation. Calcium supplements help with bone density, not length. Check your BMI at a teen website, exercise about 30-60 minutes a day, avoid soda and eat two fruits and three vegetables a day and you'll be fine.

severely restricting the caloric intake deprives the body of many nutrients when it is this very important growing phase.
adolescents with eating disorders can permanently alter the endocrine system for the entire life, this effects many kinds of growth, both physical and mental.
one of my ex gf's was anorexic and bulimic in high school. today she suffers from chronic depression and a thyroid condition. she's 34 and can not hold a job because of this. the medications that she has to take to control the depression effect her so memory severely she can not be gainfully employed.

yes it does, because during adolescence, that's when you're are growing and your organs are developing. that's why smoking and drinking liquor is banned for those under 18... it's to protect teens' organs
calcium supplements usually strengthens bones and teeth only
