The aroma and taste of a fresh loaf of bread, when still just a little warm with smart balance,or butter if you try that it will convince you that it is worth your time and effort to bake it.

Sometimes I bake my own bread. These days I'm so busy but you get the same flavor of plain old white bread minus all of the preservatives. And you can also experiment with different types of flour and mix-ins...making a loaf of cinnamon swirl bread is fairly easy for any novice to conquer. Baking bread can be labor intensive (you have to knead it for 10 minutes, let it rise for an hour, punch it back down, let it rise again) but there is something satisfying about making your own bread. There are few foods simpler and better than a warm slice of toast made from homemade bread topped with some good butter or jam!

Apart from all the other answers I have read, I think some people actually think that because they bake it that
A- It's healthy
B- It's safe- no germs
C- There is no cross contamination
I work in a very strict bakery and have found that a good baker can make the best bread and no home made person could top that.... you just need to bottle that yummy bread smell!

My husband likes to bake bread. Growing up his parents had a bakery. I believe that it brings back childhood memories for him. Its a comfort thing. I think that there are alot of people that grew up baking bread with thier Grandmothers, mothers etc. So for some people, baking bread brings back those warm fuzzy feelings of those people.
For Some it is a Health thing. They like the satisfaction of knowing that what they are eating is healthy.
With so many Bread Machines out there, I think that bread making is becoming a lost art. So, I think that bread baking is a nostalgic thing to do and people like to remind themselves occasionally of yesteryear. You know the story "The Little Red Hen"? I think Im like the duck, I want to eat the bread when someone else makes it, but I don't want to have part in making it. Not when I can just pick a loaf up at the store. Making bread doesn't do a thing for me, but Im happy that my husband likes to make it sometimes, because I am happy to help him eat it.

It is not that you can buy it at the grocery store it really is a JOY to make your own bread. It is something that keeps you involved most of the day. Especially when it rises and you get to "punch" the air out of it..Just think of some one who made you mad and punch it good My Mom always made her own bread and I always use her recipe I guess it keeps her with me then.

If you're willing to put in the effort, freshly baked bread is one of the best foods in the world. Even bread that's only an hour old can't compare.

While I agree the majority of the time store bought is all around the best idea. Every once in a while homemade bread is just something I want. It takes a little amout of time, but the payoff is worth it!

Have you never woken up to the smell of freshly baked bread???
Obviously not, but it is the best smell in the world. Simply to die for.
*You* are missing out!
Nowadays, with a bread machine, you can set the timer for when you want the bread to be *finished*....and it starts cooking accordingly. Awesome!
*Always* set it for when you are planning to awaken!!! One of the best things in life is to awaken to that smell!
Also, with bread machines, it is easy.....and you have the option of making a heck of alot more varieties of bread. Also true of baking in the oven with recipes.
Now, I'm old. Not old enuff to have had bread baked in the oven for me often....but once or twice.
Now that is to *die* for. The taste, the smell, the texture....HHHhhhhmmmnnnn!
Try it, you''ll like it!!!!!!
Did that help?

I'm a 23 year old guy and I tend to find myself cooking homeade things. For me, it's because I just simply like making my own food instead of simply buying store bought stuff. I make my own bread from time to time, tastes great and yes...It is worth it! When you taste something that you've done with your own hands, you tend to appreciate it a bit more.
