Try flossing. Food particles caught in the teeth break down and decompose if left there. That is most likely the cause of any odors, not the saliva itself. Use plain baking soda to brush with too. As with carpets it neutralizes odors and the abrasiveness polishes the teeth at the same time. Try that. And ask you dentist for his advice. That is part of their job description.

Calm down. These pores are salivation glands. Your mouth produces saliva constantly and there is no way to avoid that. Everyone gets bad breath while they are sleeping, thus "morning breath." I'm sure your fiance has this as well.

Have you gone to a regular doctor to rule out a sinus infection. This will also give you bad breath.

It's very common for bacteria to collect while you sleep, it doesn't matter how much you brush during the day. If you were to brush right before bed and gargle it would help out somewhat. My best advice would be to relax, your partner will understand... Everyone gets "Morning breath".

Drink more water during the day. You don't say whether you are a smoker or not. Cut back on the garlic, onion or whatever you are eating during the day. It could be a gut problem. Go to your local doctor and discuss the problem with him/her.
