What channels would a person have to use to emigrate from the U.S.?

Would a U.S. citizen have to give up their citizenship to be a citizen of another country as well, or is dual citizenship still possible?

I'm pretty sure the law just changed and you now need a passport to go to Canada and Mexico now.

What I would like to know is how one can move to another country and solicit to work and live there.

I think you should narrow down a list of countries where you would like to live then see if you meet their visa requirements. Each country has its own regulations on short and long stay visas as well as obtaining citizenship and dual citizenship.

Dual citizenship is not that easy. If you want to leave the country you can do that with or without pass port north or south. To enter another country other than Canada or Mexico those 'others' require a pass port. Once inside you can play the same game that they play when they come to the US, legally or not so legal.

I work in Immigration Law, it all depends on where you want to go. There are different guidelines for different Countries. Hows that for layman terms?
