This passage was used for hundreds of years to justify racial slavery in the U.S. and elsewhere; and you're right, it is unclear. One thing for sure, nowhere does it talk about skin color.

it was not talking about skin color. and back then when someone was cursed like by God it was said to last no more then 10 generations if that. i believe a black mark was put on Ham not sure if he is the one. and that he was cursed and as i said that was useally for no more then 10 generations. however it did not go into saying it was black people or white or red or any other color.

Blessings and curses were big time deals in those days. When you were angered at someone for their behavior you cursed them. Meaning you more or less wished ill things towards them.

It had nothing to do with skin.

By saying they will be slaves of slaves was insulting them by putting them at the lowest common demoninator.

when his son uncovered his fathers nakedness it means he had sex with noahs wife of his own mother. when his son and his wife had a baby together then noah cursed that child.

no it was not the beginning of the black race as some have been told. when a white woman and her son have a baby there is no way the baby will change races because of it. medical problems to be sure but not race change.

and yes noah was not real pleased with that baby to say the least. However, whenever Christ died on the cross, the three days that his body was in his tomb his spirit body went all the way back to the people of noahs time and that child had the opportunity to be saved as we all do now.

This question prompted me to re-read my bible and the story of Noah. Wasnt Ham, Shem and Japheth the decesdents of Noah? Wow... the great prophet cursing his own sons... really strange way of portraying holiness.

To the previous post about slavery... OMG! I never knew that! Thank you for that bit of trivia and info...This is the part of religion that i find most damaging, Unscrupulous individuals who use twisted interpretations of holy text to subdue, dominate and abuse others as Slavers did to slaves....
