Towards the end of the second century AD, Celsus wrote against Christianity and related that Mary had been a seamstress for the High Priests and was seduced by a Roman soldier named Panthera on guard there.
Thomas Hardy wrote a poem called 'Panthera' in which the old vet Panthera consoles a childless buddy by saying, "My girl had a kid once and all he did was get himself shamefully crucified!"
I first read this in a book by the German Werner Keller. This book's German title, "The Bible is right after all" fitted in with the drive to rebuild mainstream Christianity after WWII. The English title was, "The Bible as History." Keller rebuts it on the grounds that there is no Roman name Panthera, so it's a corruption of "parthenos" virgin, ie Jesus the son of the virgin.
BUT recently they discovered a Roman soldier's gravestone with the name Pantera. And his unit had served in Palestine at the right time. Also we know that Roman soldiers guarded the High Priest's wardrobe.

There are so many people looking to "debunk" every part of Christianity, it seems bizarre that proof of this nature would just come to light at this point. If credible they would likely have found solid proof for the vilidity of this person's paternity a long time ago. Sorry dude, but the fact that there was somebody of the same name in the area as the guy in the rumor doesn't make it a fact.

I once saw a girl named Mary get a "Roman Soldier Helmet". In fact, it happened while they were listening to the band Pantera.

Thomas Hardy... A twentieth century poet... VERY FAR from an eyewitness!
I mean someone could just as easily say the soldier was named Julius or Brutus or Marcus.

a million) Sorry, it explains none of that stuff, a minimum of no longer in a extra appropriate way that the bible would not already clarify it. 2) "He even says on your bible that it became into you who has stated it, no longer him." yet Jesus saved silent. And answering, the severe priest stated to Him, I placed You on oath via the residing God which you let us know in case you are the Christ, the Son of God. Jesus stated to him, You stated it. I make it easier to be attentive to extra. From this time you shall see the Son of guy sitting off the the superb option hand of potential, and coming near the clouds of the heaven. (Matthew 26:sixty 3-sixty 4 LITV) i'm assuming that's what you're conversing approximately. First, He would not say "no longer I". 2nd, even in English, "You stated it" is quite often meant as contract with what yet somebody else stated. third, it additionally potential that for the duration of the NT: "And answering, the only betraying Him, Judas, stated, under no circumstances I is it, Rabbi? He stated to him, you have stated it." (Matthew 26:25 LITV) 3) "simply by fact it became into your form who sought so dearly to break all information proving your prophet's mortal father." around argument. You assume that such information existed. 4) "They have been written in the previous your bible ever became into." information? till you relatively supply such information, i do no longer see why we provide your assertions any credit.. 5) "Or the notice of a guy who in basic terms began your faith simply by a seizure he had whilst vacationing." If it became into in basic terms his notice, perchance. yet you're forgetting Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and so on. 6) "perchance simply by fact he had the information to teach that he became into the superb option?" extra around argument.
