It's possible. If something that the "solver" could feel, was put on each small cube (identical items on each color group) it could be done. Obviously, if it's a trick, that "something" would have to be invisible (ie: clear tape cut into a different shape for each color). The tape would probably have to be the kind that's not shiny. Other ways could be thought of for identifiable textures, like little dots of clear glue that had dried, or scratches made on the surface of the small cubes, etc.
I'd never be able to pull it off, since I can't even solve one with my eyes wide open.

Yes it can be done:
1. You can use a "brail" cube. There are raised dots on the cube to represent color.
2. It can be from a starting position for which you have memorized the solution. The commercial is probally done that way.

I would think that it would be impossible. A person would have to memorize an incredibly complex series of moves and the chances of someone being able to perform such a task is highly unlikely.

yes there is a repetitive series of movements you can do to achieve a solution, it may take you a million moves but it will happen.
