in the middle of the night (around 2:30ish), my mother will get up out of her sleep and drink insane amounts of water. i understand being thirsty, or your throat being dry, but this is EVERY NIGHT without fail.

is there something more there or is she just thirsty?

as a sidenote, this happens also when she gets in from work, she'll pour a tall glass of soda. same before she goes to bed. the water thing has been more a recent thing, but the middle-of-the-night runs were also soda.

That's what I used to do before I was diagnosed with Diabetes. But I didn't have a schedule. I would just get up several times to drink and to go to the bathroom is the other half of my symptoms.

My blood sugar drops in the middle of the night so I get a drink, but I don't know if water would do. I drink Dr.Pepper and eat a handfull of Combos.

Yes you should be concerned. Most people who have diabetes don't even know it, and one of the signs is drinking lots of water. You should take her to see her doctor A.S.A.P. Good luck!

She should tell her doctor about this. She should be checked for diabetes, this often is a sign. Diabetes can be treated with medication.

She's dehydrated for some reason but until she goes to the doctor, or wants to, it can't be diagnosed. You are right to be concerned. It isn't normal.
