I have black skin under my armpits and between my thighs and I hope it never goes away. I don't see a problem with it.

This is called hyperpigmentation. It can be caused by many different things. The most common reasons in women is PCOS which is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome or a thyroid problem. If its PCOS they will most likely prescribe gluchophage which is commonly for diabetes but also treats PCOS and if you take this drug it will cause the spots to go away in a few weeks.

the condition is acanthosis nigricans, It makes the areas between your legs, armpits, neck, very dark. Your skin darkening could be a sign of insulin resistance syndrome, or of the Polycystic Ovarian Disease.
Search the web for it to see if you have any other symptoms of Insulin Resistance also called metabolic syndrome .

surgery cannot change your color, get skin bleach at your local cosmetic counter, you might have to ask for it.
