Because Garlic has a natural antibiotic in it, it should be taken accordingly. Onion is wonderful and can be taken frequently.

For a cold, I would take Garlic only if there is a yellow mucus discharge. If it is clear, then I would take 2 capsules of Goldenseal to start and then 1 capsule 4 times a day after that. As for the onion, I've never heard of eating it raw... I usually take 1 tablespoon of white sugar, sprinkle it over 1/2 of an onion and let it rest for several hours or until it "juices" out. If it doesn't seem to be doing that, (sometimes it doesn't if you have a particularly "hot" onion), then you can cut it up, add 2 tablespoons of water and cook it gently on the stove until it becomes really watery. Extract the juice from the pan and throw the cooked onion away. If you don't cook it and it juices out for you, you can use that for a cough. It works wonders on it!

Also, you can use a teaspoon of honey and 1 teaspoon of lemon. You take the lemon juice (fresh only) and swallow it, followed by the honey. Lemon juice is an astringent and kills any bacteria that would cause a sore throat, and the honey coats, soothes and heals the throat. Hope this helps! Good luck.

The cold is a virus. Onions and garlic will do absolutely nothing except stave off vampires. There are no remedies for the common cold whatsoever, herbal or medicinal. You may stave off the virus by taking vitamins, but even this has never been proven.

yes. raw....the toxins in onion and garlic do best when raw..they are also poison to humans...but you'd have to eat nothig but onion and garlic for all three meals to be harmed by them.

Have a salad with onions, lettuce, tomato. use lots of vinegar+oil or italian dressing.

the toxins protect the roots of the onions+garlic from all sorts of nasties but their effectiveness against viruses (like the cold virus) is limited when eaten.
