Ignore the comment about Shanghai - it is hundreds of miles away. The Great Wall extends for thousands of miles from just north and east of Beijing to the far west. If you want to see restored (and touristy) parts of the Great Wall, there are tours from Beijing.

Since the Great Wall is about 6000 km in length, there is no city where it is found. However there are cities or locations where you can travel to parts of the Great Wall. From Beijing there are at least 3 sections of the Great Wall which is opened to tourists. Other sections are not that well known.
In Chinese, the Great Wall is known as the Ten Thousand Li Long City Wall. The li is an ancient Chinese measure of distance.

There are a lot of cities near the great wall. But Beijing is great place to start. The great wall is called the great wall. In Chinese, I believe it is called Chang Cheng.
