Why is hunting with a hight powered crossbow banned in most places (just about all states in Australia)?

Why are the police so frightened of crossbows (other than they go through most bullet proof vests)?

Little flower are you a vegetarian, have you ever really looked at what happens in slaughter houses?

Hunting is more than food anyway, feral pests such as goats, pigs, cats, dogs, camels, water buff, must be culled.

Reallistically an arrow is less painless than a high powered gun shot.

An accurate heart/lung shot is a quick kill.

Crossbows are usually prohibited except for those with disabilities (as it is here in Michigan) because they give a distinct advantage to their users, effectively turning bow season into rifle/shotgun season. On the legal front they are extremely deadly, their ammo is not traceable back to the individual weapon, and (compared to a gun) are virtually silent.

I won't even start with Petunia's comments, besides that I think it stinks.

They are gaining acceptance here in the states. They had a stigma in the past as being too easy or being a poachers weapon. I do not personally hunt with one but i have shot a few quit a bit. Believe me they are not just point and shoot. They actually have a shorter affective range than bows, because the bolts are lighter than conventional arrows. Ten years ago only disabled hunters could use them in just a few states. Now a lot of the states allow any one to use them.

As far as crossbow hunting... the shaft has the ability to pass completely through a living target... possibly leaving a non-lethal but painful wound. I imagine some think of this as cruel, and have enacted laws.

As far as the Police fearing being struck by a crossbow shaft...
I, myself, do not harbor a desire such as this. The only holes that I want in my body are the ones that I was born with ;)

I imagine the Police feel the same.

They are not banned in Tennessee.I think they are banned in some parts because they do not want to make it too easy.

You answered your own question ! I am glad. I am against hunting unless your family is in desperate need of food !!! And you have exhausted all means of getting that food through help organizations. Animals have a hard enough time w/o the Deadliest Animal on the Planet after them & then using unfair advantage against them.
I did some hunting in my 20s and after I had my 1st kill I shook for 1&1/2 hours !!! The pain and screams the animal made were REAL !!!!!!! And I was immediately sorry & ashamed of myself and I NEVER did it again !!! Some 30yrs later I can still hear those cries of angony and fear !!!!!!!!! PLEASE DONT KILL !!!! Think, animals have families and mates, they feel and have 'feelings' !!!! It is nothing but cruel. PLEASE STOP NOW !!! Join a gun club and shoot or an archery club or better yet a Paint Ball Group -- now that is FUN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! tHANK YOU FOR THINKING.
