No, not unless I don't want anything to do with them ever again. It also depends on what the money was used for and their current financial status. When it comes to family members, I always loan them money realizing that chances are I will never get it back.

Never! it hurts you a lot if your close relatives are refusing bluntly to pay your money back. but suing them will make you and them alike.
Suing them comes to mind when one is in bad need of the money and has no other source... better is to forget that for some time and try other sources instead of suing them and taking them to court for few thousand dollars sacrificing your relations for lifetime.
And ask your inner too - Will you like it your brother is suing you? Your own blood?if not then don't do to others what you don't like for yourself.

I doubt that it would ever happen to my family but it depends on whether i really needed it.. If i did then i would have to sue them wioth no hard feelings but if i can survive with out it i would just let it go but not give them any money ever again.. its a two way street.

Allways draw up a contract or promissory note when loaning large sums of money even with family as you now know

If I'd said they didn't need to pay it back that would be okay but if they point blank said No I'm not paying you back I'd be very disappointed and probably wouldn't want to help out again. As they are family though I couldn't guarantee I wouldn't help out again.

Yes I would, if they were able to pay it back or make payments and decided just to be jerks and tell me no, I would sue them. If they honestly have no money they can give you then I would let them know as soon as they have a job they have to start making payments. If they are just lazy users then sue them!

No. It really depends if you trust the relative or family member enough.
