Having sex carries greater risk for women than for men in terms of possible pregnancy and responsibility for raising a baby. And this means that in biological and psychological terms, women are necessarily choosier than men about who they will have sex with and in what circumstances.

Men are more willing. Women are more reluctant. And to make a good match between the willing and the reluctant you need to have some kind of an incentive for the less willing.

Money is a universal way of providing compensation for everything, including risk. But most women accept gifts, expensive vacations, and dates at the restaurant. As long as there is some kind of compensation, then things work out well between sex-eager-men and sex-reluctant-women.

I suppose it's a matter of demand and supply. And the one who is supplying usually wants some kind of compensation in return. Or else she has little or no motivation to supply to the guy who wants it.

If your meaning of "paying for sex" being wining and dining a girl, then technically you do. The reason being we want to feel pampered in a way before we give it up. It is called courting. People did that back in the old days and has been lost in some guys.

Are you too picky? When you pay for sex you probably get a really hot girl so the good girls that are wife material probably aren't good enough for you. Or you could have a little attitude problem or something. No offense. Just try to chill out a little. You could have a problem with the way you talk to girls and maybe you scare them. Maybe it's a self esteem issue. Maybe your too shy. Try to put yourself out there more. Just be comfortable with yourself and girls will be comfortable with you.

Why would you even consider paying for sex if you're looking for a long term relationship?

Focus not on sex, but on finding the right woman for a long term relationship then. Rest will follow.

Because you're a man. Men always have to pay for sex one way or another. If you think being in a relationship means you're not paying for it, then think again.

It could be that you do not have an attractive personality.
Rude, ignorant or loud people rarely have much luck in the love world (not that I am accusing you of being that type of person)
Perhaps you should take a good look at yourself.

Lame, must be something wrong with you. You may think you are great, but why don't you really ask people what they think of you. Someone you don't know well who can be honest. If you want all that and you are a wonderfully attractive person you will have it. Maybe your too shy in talking? Maybe you don't approach person? Maybe your too co cky in your attitude?
