AVI files are tricky. They can be pretty much any format from my past experience. MPEG, MPEG-4 (DIVX), all source of open source and/or hacked encoders create these. If all else fails, try VLC.

just read about democracy player. I remember having a few problems with VLC, but that was way back. Democracy player is built on VLC,. Other wise you could probably install a 3rd partry codec, or find some on media players website. careful when downloading codecs though. I would get a package from a source you trust.

You can download Real Player 10, Jet Audio, Total Video Converter, Winamp 5 (final version), if you don't know where to download these players, go to www.download.com and search for them. You can also look for other media players that play avi files. If there's anything you need to ask, marxist_26@yahoo, my YM.

There are a lot (windows media player, winamp, BLC etc.). But you must have the .avi codecs to play the files you want. Search the complete codec series ''Storm Codecs''. Its free
