My boyfriend and I really like Dobermans and this is our first one. We can't seem to stop him from going to the bathroom in the house. We take him outside and he goes but when we bring him inside, he goes again. It is so frustrating. We also got him a bell to let us know when he needs to go out, he ate it. We got pee pads, he ate those too. I am tryin to be patient and I have run out of ideas....HELP!

That was a problem I had with my recent dobe. What you can do is take a walk around the neighborhood and let him mark his territory for a few minutes to "drain him" (lol sorry ;] ) and when he dos go outside, praise him everytime with a small treat and a rub on the head. Then you should crate train him, and then you teach him when he does go in the house, you put him in the crate and he has to be ignored for about 30 mins no matter how much he may whine or you feel bad , you have to do it. Also what he could be doing becuase he is new to the house, he is probably marking his territory. So you may have to buy a pet stain cleaner to get rid of the oder, no matter how mant times you clean the area, a dog can smell it. And every time you catch him, do not hit him , he should only be scolded, becuase you will teach him to be afraid to go in front of you when he goes outside. They have many of varities of a pet stain removers in your local wal*mart, grocery store, pet store, ect; to get rid of the oder he can smell.
and if you have a problem with the smell too that lingers around the house. You can buy fabreeze, thats the best stuff that only hides the oder from YOU, not the dog. So dont think it will work from him too! Please be patient, it doesnt take long for Dobermans to catch on to things, so dont feel so overwhelmed. I have been raised with dobermans all my life, and i train them so i know how they kinda work inside their heads. I wish you luck and im sorry if this dosent help you, and I think you made a wonderful choice on a dog :) If you need anymore help, you could E-mail me anytime!

I dont have a doberman BUT I potty trained my dog in 1-2 weeks. we streted by taking out dog out every 2 hours, then every 3 hours then every4 etc etc. him going outside and then Inside is prob a sign of making his territory. Is he neutered?? this could be your first problem. He could be marking his territory and letting you know that he is the "ALPHA" which is BAD BAD BAD! if he is neutered, then he could prob smell andy other animals that you could have had or is still just marking...boys like to do that. Its is very important that if you catch him about to pee that you scold..No hitting, then immediatly take him back outside to finish his buisness. My mom used a bell....and it worked. When she potty trained our old dog, anytime that she peed she would take the dog over to the door where the bell was hanging and rang it really hard then let her outside. eventually she would go over and hit the bell with her nose and that was how she let my mom know that she had to go outside. and make sure you keep on a routine.. if you change it too much the dog will get confused...and if you know that he is gonna pee when you get inside then watch him like a hawk and be ready to pounce when you see him about to pee. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!! :0) I have faith
