Being fat CAN be genetic, but most people these days use that as a crutch. Obesity is NOT normal, I'm talking just a little 'over'weight. No human was built to be obese. The 'fat gene' only indicates a person's likelihood to be fat. But, they still have much control over their fate.

Obese ppl as a whole really eat a lot of food. Just look at how different sized ppl eat at the office Christmas party or at a buffet lunch. Obese ppl are often not aware of the large portions that they are eating. The reason obesity runs in families is probably due to the patterns of eating that kids learn from their parents.

obesity, no matter what a doctor says is the result of metabolism. my wife is obese, but she eats less than a bird does and is still overweight. i eat like a hog and lose weight faster than she can put it on. i can gain and lose twenty pound in two weeks. she just looks at a hotdog and puts on five pounds. it makes no sense that doctors claim it's a discease whn it isn't. it's a result of the individual's own system, whether you want to call it genetic or just normal eating, is really not any kind of true answer. somew people can gain weight and others can't. others will gain it, no matter what.

Some of it is genetic but most of it when you are in your growing years, that is why exercise is so important then. But most of it 90%, is eating and exercising habits familys learn from each other in the same house hold

I'm not sure obesity is genetic, but metabolisms are...if two parents have a slow metabolism, the child is prone to; thus keeping him or her "chunky" due to digesting food so slowly.

that's mean. Well, you to contract SOME obesity from your parents, but if you exercise, then no, it shouldn't matter. But not all the obesity comes from genes, it's if your active enough. Cheers!!

Obesity can be genetic. But learning bad eating habits has even more influence on obesity.

It's not unilaterally true, but it's got a lot of truth to it. There are some pretty active people who just can't shake the weight, or who are just big. There are people who sit around all day and stay thin...and people who sit around all day and get fat.

It does have quite a bit to do with genetics. It also has to do with diet, exercise level, activity level, medical issues, etc.
