I have a scar on the back of my hip that is about 20 yrs old (from surgery) and one on the front of my hip that is about 8 yrs old. Both are from previous surgeries (bone graphs)

The wierdest thing happened tonight...
One swelled up and started itching likke crazy, and then a couple of hours later the other one did the same thing!

Has anyone ever heard of this happening?

i understand that scars are caused from layers of skin that go crazy when on healing process, and it is also caused by some hormones before. so when it itches now even decades of old scar, it could mean that some skin cells from differnt layer are moving due to hormones or physical factor like scrathching or temperature sometimes, so it will increase in size, so i suggest if it is itchy dont touch it, just put ice pack. i have old scars too and when i went for body scrub, the lady touches my scar often and i noticed that it becomes itchy and it grew in size, so what i did was to stop my body scrub or evade that part of my body with scar.

I'm a woman so I of course have not had a circumcision but I have had a few surgeries and I have scars. I have to say that the scar on my naval and my heel do not itch. I get a gross disgusting feeling when they are touched. However, my sister who was in a car accident 6 years ago has a significant scar on her forehead. And it makes me jittery when she rubs, tugs and scratches at it. She says that it itches most of the time. I think everyone is different and yes, they can itch. I think you're a lucky one. What a wonderful place to have an itch. I'm sure it's quite satisfying at times. :) Sorry, I'm tired. Have a wonderful day!

That is odd. Usually they itch when they're healing.
You might have an infection going on.
