Take him to the vet. There may be something wrong with him. Or you could just try leaving him in a room with some soft dog food mixed with kibble, It will be appealing and if thats all thats around to eat, he will eat it to survive. Refrain from giving him any human food.

I have a male Chihuahua, that was not eating. When we took him to the vet, he had a lung infection, and his kidneys were not working correctly. The vet treated him in the office, put him on a special diet, antibiotics for 2 weeks at home, and vitamins, to replenish the vitamins he lost from him not eating. He is doing great now!Everything is back to normal and he's eating again with no problems. Small dogs cannot and should not go too long without eating. It sounds like Chester has some kind of underlying medical problem, and that's the reason he's not eating. Honestly, I would really recommend taking him to the vet very soon, because the vet is the only one who can determine what the exact problem is, and treat it. If money is a problem, most veterinarians will work out a payment plan with you.

Little dogs don't need much in the way of food, maybe even as little as 150-200 calories per day. If you are feeding treats and people food, he will never get hungry enough to eat the dog food. It may be easier to get him to eat canned than dry if he's used to people food. You are supposed to be able to feel ribs, they should have an hourglass figure when viewed from above, and the abdomen should tuck in when viewed from the side. Hip bones and spine should not be bony to feel, if they are it's a sign he really is underweight. You should take him to a vet and let them do a body condition score, you may be surprised. Also bring a stool sample to check for parasites, tapeworms will make ya skinny.

My first suspicion is the dog has worms; there are so many different kinds; ALL of them can kill a dog if they are allowed to. De-worming is a MUST at least every 6 months or sooner if you notice any dark brownish red colored poops, with a tiny drop of blood or two at the end of the bowel movement.. blood is ALWAYS a sign of trouble.

Suggestion: get the dog dewormed, if it has fleas at ALL, get Advantage; nothing is better... if the dog is possibly got something that makes her hurt when he eats? My neighbor had a cat slowly starving to death till i looked down its throat and saw a sewing needle imbedded in its palate... the vet had to anesthestise the cat and remove the needle and her appetite came back overnight. Its also possible that it has a lot of hair in its stomach; possibly an obstruction...

IF IT WERE MY DOG, I would take a trip to a good vet and have them test the dog for worms, disease , fleas... in general just some basic tests... maybe he has a bad tooth that is hurting so he wont eat his food... or maybe he's just stuck on human food and you arent giving him as much as he needs?

Definitely get the dog checked by a vet. However the problem sounds more like him being spoiled than anything. If he's eating human food just fine it's probably not a medical condition. Stop giving him people food and just allowing him to have dog food. He'll eat it when he gets hungry enough. I do suggest trying to find one that he likes though.

Open his mouth and take a look inside it. If you think he could be sick or something have a Vet examine him.
Small breeds have small stomachs and they do not eat much. They could be full on small amount of treats or other incomplete food given to them.
If that is not the problem you can moisten half of the kibble to make it more palatable. Soaking a kibble to make it softer makes it more digestable and better utilized by the body.
Maybe try another brand he may like better too. Keep in mind the low quality/grocery type brands add sugar and/or salt to their foods to entice dogs to eat theirs.

My best advice is take the dog to a vet immediately. They'll likely do a fecal float to check for parasites. A dog who refuses water and food and is becoming thin is very serious. When you take the dog to the vet take a fresh poop with you, under four hours old, under eight hours old if it is refrigerated. Just pick it up with a inside out sandwich baggy, then seal it up.
