Hi my names Brie and I want to volunteer for the bglind society, but i'm only 15, can I still help, and what could you tell me about caring for the blind?
And do you think it's a good idea?
I have a big heart and time on my hands.
Also do you think that it's alright that i'm in a wheelchair, do you think they would let me in?
Sincerely brie,

HI! Of course they will let you in if you want to help. There are a number of ways that you could volunteer with the vision impaired, even at 15. The first would be to go and visit people with vision impairment as a social visitor. This can really bolster people up and reduce their isolation.

Also, in my city the major vision organisation has a radio station where volunteers go on the radio and read out the news for the blind. I am sure that if there is a similar program in your area that they would love to have you there.

If there aren't a lot of volunteer positions available with the Blind Society in your region, there are loads of other volunteering opportunities with other groups, and there are lots which especially love to have young volunteers. I started volunteering when I was 16, working with children who have special needs, disability and come from marginalised backgrounds. They love having young fun volunteers to play with!

Best of luck with your endeavours, I think it's great that you want to give something back to the world, and I am sure that being in a wheelchair won't stop you from making a huge difference to people's lives.

Take good care!

Oh, im 15 too and i just asked a question. yes i do think it is a good idea. i could be hard at first, if you havent had much exposure to blind people. it is nothing that you can adjust too. a wheelchair should stop you. and you shpuldn't let it. if they dont let you in it should be for that reason.

assalam o alikum
all i know is "when there is a will, there is a way"
if u r doing it for good cause, inshaAllah (God's will) Allah (God) will help u,
i believe u have many other strengths which u can utilize to help others.
i advise people to work on strength to make it more stronger, and leave the weakness esp when u have little control on it. soon u will see ur strength overcomes the weakness.
i wish u all the best.

about what to do, so u can do the following things
- make them comfortable by talking with them,
- share daily news with them
- tell them what is going on in this world. keep them up-to-date
- share jokes etc
- never make them feel that if they cant see so they r missing something
- tell them to focus on their strength and polish them
- u can help them to polish those strength and skills
- help them to learn some skills.
- if possible, help them to find jobs so that they can earn, and it brings sense of security
- if they curse their blindness, shift their focus on other things.
- encourage them, energize them
- involve them in sports which is possible for them to do, indoor or outdoor
- arrange different kinds of competitions
- inspire them by sharing the great ppl like Hellen Killer, who did so much despite they were special in some respect.
- celebrate with them different occassions, like birthday, new year etc.
- and many more things u can do. once u there, sense the environment and do accordingly. remember one thing, keep ur spirit high.

may Allah guide us toward the right path. ameen
